It is not yet clear what specific crimes they have been charged with. Neither the police nor the prosecutor’s office commented on the case. According to the letter, the witness testified in another case that Kováčik was supposed to ensure that the prosecutor’s office did not file a complaint against the decision of the court, which released a alleged boss of a criminal gang in 2017 on bail of 100,000 euros. In the past, Kováčik had to explain why he put 200,000 euros in cash into his account and where he took them. He told the police that his brother had lent him the amount and that was the end of it.

Kováčik was accused of several acts, including corruption. Jana Tökölyová, a spokeswoman for the Office of the Special Prosecutor’s Office, confirmed this. “Currently, procedural steps are in progress and due to their nature and content, we will not comment further,” said Tököly.
