Gerard shone in the 1988 Eurovision Song Contest. He performed the song ‘Shangri-la’ and managed to get it to ninth place. Originally, Geer would also participate in the Eurovision song contest in 2009, together with De Toppers. But due to contractual obligations and the umpteenth fight with Gordon, this fell through. Jeroen van der Boom took his place.
Nevertheless, Gerard looks at his very first participation with great pleasure: “The best thing about my participation was the preparation. If I played six songs with the Metropole Orchestra, after which the audience could decide which song I would eventually participate in. Awesome.”

The presenter is not very pleased with how the candidates are selected nowadays. “It often goes well, but there are also disastrous choices. And I remember that Anouk was ninth a few years ago. Well, she had put the Eurovision song contest on the map in the Netherlands, it was said. I ended in the same place, but I was just not pissed off. “
If a good song comes along for Gerard, then nothing stands in the way of a new participation. “I just step onto that stage. But I think that a lot of people would want and that we have an incredible amount of talent. Look at Dear Singers of The Voice. There are so many good people among them, I don’t think they are waiting for me. “

Should Gerard ever participate again, a space must be made in his agenda. At the moment, the presenter cannot be dismissed. So he was not only seen in The Voice Senior, but he is also in the panel of The Masked Singer.
