AstraZeneca Vaccine Volunteer Dies Receiving Placebo, What Is It?

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – AstraZeneca and Oxford University’s corona (Covid-19) vaccine volunteers who are being tested in Brazil have died. The volunteer suffered from Covid-19 complications and died.

Written AFP, this is the first vaccine-related death worldwide. He is a young doctor aged 28 years and works at the forefront of handling corona in the country.

However, after independent team testing, it is said that the doctor was apparently given a placebo injection in that test and not the AstraZeneca vaccine. Vaccine testing is still ongoing.

Then what is this placebo?

Quoting second, a placebo is a blank drug that is a standard control component of clinical trials conducted to make judgments about the efficacy of a drug or medical treatment.

The placebo itself is an inactive substance that looks like a drug, vaccine, or treatment being tested.

When testing vaccines, volunteers were divided into two groups. One test group and the other a placebo group.

However, to obtain objective and unbiased test results, clinical trial volunteers did not know which group they belonged to. Administration of the placebo was kept secret so that the test subjects were not affected.

Earlier the Brazilian health authority, Avisa, confirmed the death on October 19. He is one of 8,000 volunteers tested so far in the country of Samba.

Brazil has targeted 20,000 people tested for the coronavirus. Volunteers must be doctors, nurses or workers in the health sector, who are regularly exposed to the virus.
