Lukaku’s goal saved the Nerazzurri from losing

Inter Milan avoid defeat when faced Borussia Moenchengladbach. Goal Romelu Lukaku in the final minutes forcing the match to end in a 2-2 draw.

Inter host Gladbach at the Giuseppe Meazza on matchday first Group B Champions League, Thursday (22/10/2020) early morning WIB. New goals came in the second half with Lukaku opening the hosts’ lead in the 49th minute.

Gladbach was then able to turn ahead with goals from penalties from Ramy Bensebaini (63 ‘) and Jonas Hoffmann (84’). Inter survived the defeat after Lukaku scored his second goal of the game in stoppage time.

The draw leaves Gladbach and Inter ranked 2nd and 3rd in Group B with one point, respectively. The top of the standings is occupied by Shakhtar Donetsk with three points after a shocking 3-2 win over Real Madrid.

The course of the match

The hosts took control of the game early in the game, the Nerazzurri opened up the threat in the 13th minute through Cristian Eriksen’s effort from a free kick. However, Eriksen’s kick was still right for Yann Sommer to embrace.

Gladbach is more focused on defending to withstand Inter’s onslaught. This had made it difficult for Antonio Conte’s men to create dangerous opportunities midway through the first half.

In the 40th minute, Inter had the opportunity to open the scoring through Romelu Lukaku. Sending a ball from Alexis Sanchez, Lukaku stabbed into the penalty box. The action of this Belgian player has yet to produce a goal because his shot is still wide.

In the 61st minute, Marcus Thuram’s stab appeared to be tackled by Arturo Vidal. Referee Bjorn Kuipers had time to review Video Assistant Referee (VAR) before deciding to designate a white dot.

Goal!! Remy Bensebaini, who became a penalty taker, did his job well. His strike landed into the left corner of goalkeeper Samir Handanovic.

In the 82nd minute, Inter wasted a golden opportunity to take the lead again. Lukaku and Darmian’s neat cooperation broke down Gladbach’s right line of defense.

Darmian unleashed a measured cross which Lautaro Martinez able to strike. However, the ball still hit the goalposts.

Continuing to attack, Inter actually missed in the 84th minute.

Goal!! Florian Neuhaus’ measured bait met Jonas Hofmann on the right. Hofmann was released after Arturo Vidal was not good enough to guard him. He then calmly beat Handanovic.

La Beneamata must now race against time to score an equalizer. Their efforts paid off in the final minutes of the match.

Goal!! Lukaku listed his name on the scoreboard. Starting from Nicolo Barella’s corner, the ball which was successfully headed by Bastoni was able to be cheated by Lukaku against Gladbach.

Lukaku’s goal saved Inter from defeat. Final score draw 2-2.
