Corona Vaccine Volunteer in Brazil Dies

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

A volunteer who participates in a clinical trial vaccine Covid-19 developed by Oxford University at Brazil reportedly died on Wednesday (21/10). So far there has been no cause of death, whether infected with the corona virus or because of other things.

Media reports said the volunteer was a 28-year-old doctor who worked treating Covid-19 patients in emergency rooms and intensive care units at two hospitals in Rio de Janeiro.

This is news of the first reported death in a series of Covid-19 vaccine trials currently underway around the world.

“According to significant medical incidents, both participants in the control group or the Covid-19 vaccine group were reviewed independently,” wrote the Oxford side as citing AFP.

In a statement, Oxford said the results of an independent review concluded there were no safety issues and testing of the vaccine. In other words, Oxford and AstraZeneca will continue their clinical trials.

“After a careful assessment of the death cases in Brazil, there are no concerns about the safety of clinical trials and an independent review other than the government has recommended that trials continue,” he wrote again.

So far about 8,000 volunteers are involved in clinical trials of the coronavirus vaccine in Brazil, half of whom are involved in the final stage clinical trials. Around the world, there are currently 20 thousand volunteers for the Covid-19 vaccine clinical trial.

Brazilian newspaper, Globe reported that the volunteers who died were young doctors who had just completed their medical studies last year. Before contracting the corona, he was known to be healthy and continued to work.

Last September, Oxford and AstraZeneca had to temporarily halt vaccine testing after a volunteer in Britain became mysteriously ill.
