The number of coronavirus infections continues to rise in New York City. “We are at the border of 10,000 cases,” Democratic Mayor of New York, Bill de Blasio said Thursday.
About a third of Covid-19 infections in the United States are in New York, the country’s largest city, with just under nine million inhabitants.
According to Johns Hopkins University, the number of infected cases in New York State (19 million inhabitants), hard hit by the epidemic, has risen to just under 15,800. However, more screening tests have been carried out in recent days. One hundred and seventeen people lost their lives.
Observe security measures
Bill de Blasio called on the people of his town to keep their distance and minimize the necessary walks or runs. People are no longer allowed to congregate in parks and playgrounds. Since Sunday evening, shopping centers, hair salons, libraries and other “non-essential” establishments have had to close their doors.
Most businesses also have to have their employees work from home, and schools, museums, cinemas and many stores have been closed for several days.
At the end of the day Sunday, the University counted more than 27,000 cases of coronavirus in the United States, which has 347 deaths in total.
