Groups “Dagamba“The first piano concert of British progressive rock legend Keith Emerson and next to it – a paraphrase of Plato Buravicka about the work of Emerson and his like-minded people. The special event of the concert program will be the world premiere of Uģis Prauliņš ‘
According to the creators of the concert, one of the founders of British progressive rock, keyboardist and composer Keith Emerson (1944-2016) brought new winds to the kaleidoscope of already known music genres in the 1960s. Together with bassist Greg Lake from the King Crimson and percussionist Carl Palmer of the odd theatrical rock band Crazy World of Arthur Brown, Emerson founded the trio Emerson, Lake and Palmer (EPP) in the early 1970s. This association marked the artistic maturity of Emerson’s work and integrated a serious academic repertoire and thinking into the world of popular music. ELP has used the compositions of Aaron Kopland, Johann Sebastian Bach, Peter Tchaikovsky, Leos Janacek, Modest Mussorgsky, Sergei Prokofiev and Bel Bartok to create his expressive and often megalithic compositions, and each album of the group ‘s sound recordings can be assessed as ideologically and stylistically styled.
The concert in Cēsis will include Keith Emerson’s First Piano Concerto, which will be performed together with “Sinfonietta Rīga” by Dainis Tenis, better known to the public as the pianist of the association “Dagamba”.
“Keith Emerson’s Piano Concerto brings together the most significant aspects of his unparalleled keyboardist talent – a virtuoso solo part, countless connections to pre-recorded music, impulsive temperament.
Along with Emerson’s composition, the program includes one of Latvia’s most unaccustomed creative spirits, Plato Buravickis. Listeners will be offered a paraphrase of the work of the British musician and his like-minded people in the composition “EmersoniLaPa”, which was premiered in the reading of “Sinfonietta Rīga” and Normunds Šnē on November 29 last year in the Grand Guild.
The biggest event of the evening is the new work “Elements” by the Latvian composer Uģis Prauliņš, whose genre designation is “Eclectic (con) Fusion Symphony in Rock”. Born and raised on this side of the Iron Curtain, Praulins, like Emersons, is a connector of the classical and non-academic world of sound – with the nerve of a rock musician, moreover, with a great interest in folk music.
Ugis Praulins about his new work, “Elements” says: “This work is a compilation of my previous experience. Here are dignified and experimental testimonials to the manuscripts and atmospheres of my previous ideals and inspirations in music. In the first part of the Symphony there is a fairly direct allusion to the excellent ELP concept piece “Tarkus”, the main theme of which has often inspired me to create several compositions. This new work is experimental and I am interested in the chosen motif and texture solution. this risk – to go on such a trip, and listeners who will patiently dedicate their evening to the premiere in Cēsis. “
Tickets for the concert can be purchased at the box office of the Concert Hall “Cēsis”, at “Biļešu paradīze” sales points and on the Internet.
