Adam Niedzielski: 20-30 percent of the new infected will go to hospitals. We must increase the restrictions

Our research shows that 20-30 percent of the new infected will end up in hospitals. With the current balance sheet, it is 2-3 thousand new patients a day – said Minister of Health Adam Niedzielski during his speech in the Sejm. He also noted that “in the beginning, we were dealing with fires – which are much easier to fight”, while now two-thirds of the cases are already “from diffuse sources”, outside the fires. He also noted that the number of the so-called There are already 300 red zones – with the total number of poviats amounting to 380 – and he stressed: “We have to increase the restrictions. (…) We are currently testing the efficiency of (the health care system)”.

During the parliamentary speech, Adam Niedzielski emphasized that the latest, record balance of new infections – more than 10,000 cases – “not only affects the psyche, but also acts real burdens for the health care system “.

“The research conducted by our experts shows that 20-30 percent of the daily number of people with new infections will end up in the hospital. This means that at this level we will have hospital occupancy of 2-3 thousand new patients a day ” – said the head of the Ministry of Health.

He also noted that “of these 2-3 thousand patients, 10-20 percent will need oxygen support, will require ventilator care.”

The minister emphasized that we are doing now much more tests than before, which is the effect of increasing the laboratories’ ability to perform research.

“It was done in summer time, it was done in summer” – he said.

Moreover, Niedzielski stressed, we also have now better understanding of “where is this virus”.

“Unfortunately, a very distinctive feature of a pandemic shift is that at the beginning we were dealing with fires, which are much easier to fight, where these simple isolation-quarantine movements keep the fire under control. At the moment, two-thirds of the cases are already from diffuse sources “ – informed the Minister of Health.

Niedzielski noted that the introduced coronavirus restrictions are “a brake on the development of the exponential pandemic” and that “We all have to press this brake very hard, very dynamically.”

“The prime minister announced that today there will be further tightening. (…) We monitor them on an ongoing basis number of the so-called red zones, this number reaches 300 – with the number of poviats amounting to 380 ” – he noted and added: “We must increase the restrictions, because we not only directly defend people’s health, but also defend the efficiency of the health care system. Let us not hide that we are testing this efficiency at the moment.
