How do you connect your iPhone and / or iPad to the popular Outlook calendar?
If you have an iPhone, you may be faced with surprises if you have a Windows computer. Especially within companies, Outlook is then a frequently used program for mail and calendar. Of course you would like to see all appointments in 1 handy overview. It is then easy to synchronize your Outlook calendar with an iPhone. That’s how you do that.
Install Outlook for iOS
First of all, it is important to have a Microsoft subscription with Outlook and to know with which account you are signed in there. You can then download the free program ‘Outlook for iOS’ from the Apple App store.
After this you can log in via your iPhone (you do this via ‘settings’ and then ‘passwords and accounts’). Here you select the option ‘new account’ and then Outlook. You can then sign in with the email address and password you use for Outlook.
You should then automatically be asked whether you want to sync calendars. When this question comes up you can press ‘yes’. Sometimes, however, that question does not come. You can then go to the Outlook app and view the settings. If synchronization is activated there, everything will be fine.
Once you have set up the synchronization, the calendars will continue to synchronize automatically.
Import iCloud calendar into Outlook
To synchronize the iCloud calendar, you can look up the ‘iCloud for Windows’ app directly on your Windows computer. If you log in there with your iCloud username and password, you can choose a number of boxes to synchronize. For the agenda, the box with ‘mail, contacts, agenda, calendars and tasks’ is sufficient. Select it and continue. You will then be presented with a selection menu which information you want to synchronize exactly.
Not all calendars sync
There may of course be reasons for not synchronizing certain calendars or appointments. You can also set that. To do this, take your iPhone device and go to Outlook. In the app you select the icon with calendar. Select this and then select your account. You will then see a list (you) of calendars that Outlook synchronizes for you. Here you can easily select calendars that Outlook should not synchronize. After this step, your calendars should be properly synchronized the way you want. For iPad users, we have one last helpful tip.
Extra for iPad users
iPad users can use iPad Split View in Windows for Outlook. With this option you can, for example, open an e-mail and immediately update your calendar in the same screen if there is a change in that e-mail.
Now that you’re working with your smartphone, you might as well install Dark Mode right away. In this ‘how to’ you can read how to do this conveniently for Android and iOS. A long (er) battery life for your iPhone is of course useful to view your calendar to the maximum. In this overview you can read 7 tips for the battery life for your iPhone to renew.
