French President Shuts Down Mosques for Teacher Beheadings

President French Emmanuel Macron said the militant Islamic group was involved in beheading teachers who showed caricatures Nabi Muhammad.

Launch Associated Press, Macron said that the group has been ordered to be disbanded, the mosque where they gathered will also be closed.

The mosque on the northeastern outskirts of Paris, Pantin, will be closed for six months starting Wednesday evening (21/10). A sign posted by local authorities at the entrance stated the mosque was closed for six months.


Samuel Paty was killed by an 18-year-old Moscow-born Chechen refugee.

Further investigations into the incident are currently underway, even though the police have shot the suspect dead. The killer has been identified by authorities as Abdoullakh Anzorov.

Court officials on Wednesday (21/10) morning local time said that seven people were detained in the investigation into the gruesome murder.

Including two minors. They must appear before the investigating judge for initial indictment.

The seven of them were among 16 people, including five teenagers, initially detained for questioning. Nine other people were released.

Investigators are currently studying how the assassin, who lives in the town of Evreux, Normandy, arranged his meeting with Paty.

Speaking after a meeting with regional officials working to fight radical Islamic groups, Macron said associations and other individuals known to have been involved in the beheading events would also be closed.

Last week’s beheading has sparked criticism from thousands of French citizens.

They gathered in the drizzle in honor of Samuel Paty. A history and geography teacher, he was beheaded last Friday on his way home from school in Conflans-Sainte-Honorine, Paris.

Macron insisted he wanted “concrete results” to combat this crushing ideology.

At a Cabinet meeting on Wednesday, Macron said a group called the Cheikh Yassine Collective would be ordered to be disbanded.

Macron has called for quick and concrete action on this case. The President is waging war on what he calls separatism.
