An environmental object dedicated to the outstanding Latvian poet and playwright Aspazija Aspasia in the dunes opened in September. It is located in the dunes, opposite the narrowest street in Jūrmala – Aspazijas Street – in a place overlooking the sea and the Aspazijas House, where the poet has spent the last ten years of her life. The sculpture of Aspazija has won the admiration of many art and poetry lovers. After visiting it, Jurmala residents and guests of the city often continue their walk by going to the nearby museum Aspazija House, while museum visitors go to see the sculpture after getting acquainted with the poet’s work. In September, Aspazija’s house The total number of visitors has more than doubled since August, from 683 to 1,600 per month, including both individual visitors and groups of visitors. The end of the summer Aspazija in the house Visitors from Lithuania, Estonia, Germany, Finland, France, Great Britain and other countries visited, while in September they were mostly residents of Latvia. At the beginning of the school year, Aspazija in the house students often visited the excursions and events organized by the museum.
Aspazija’s house preserves the memory of the poetess, telling about the life and work of Aspazija. The museum displays historical values - the spacious Aspazija dining room and guest salon with a richly decorated tiled stove, floral furniture and antique radio, where you can hear the poet’s voice, Aspazija’s study, cozy kitchen and others.
In the form of a hologram, both the Aspazija herself and her trusted friends – cats – can be found in the museum rooms, the living room table of the Aspazija House is also “brought to life”, where interactive games related to the poet’s life and work are available.
The museum is currently hosting an interactive exhibition Sunny corner, which invites children to get to know Aspasia ‘s poetry in an exciting way. The exhibition hall has turned into an Art Nouveau garden, where young visitors can experience a variety of feelings while sleeping. Environmental object Aspasia in the dunes is as a supplement to the museum ‘s exposition about the poet’ s life and work. In the bronze sculpture, the artist Olga Šilova depicts Aspazija’s bright personality and outstanding talents, youth and noble beauty. At the feet of Aspazija is a cat that reminds of the poet’s special love for these pets and gives the sculptural image a human dimension.
The environmental object was supported in the Jurmala city project competition Jurmala – the centenary of the Latvian state. Residents and companies have participated in the creation of the sculpture with donations, which makes this environmental object dedicated to Aspazija even more special.
