Head of the Prime Minister’s Office: the situation is serious
The field hospital at the National Stadium will be a branch of the Ministry of Interior and Administration hospital in Warsaw and will be opened in a few days – government representatives announced on Monday afternoon at a press conference.
– The situation is serious. Although we are opening up places for covid patients in hospitals at different levels, we have to think about different options – said the head of the Prime Minister’s Office, Michał Dworczyk. The temporary hospital at the National Stadium is to have 500 beds in the first stage, 50 of which will be in intensive care. Ultimately, 1,000 beds will be available there.
National Stadium. Boniek comments
– If the National Stadium as a hospital will help in fighting the pandemic, why not? I have no arguments to say now that this is a wrong solution. Specialists should speak about the fight against the epidemic. Chaos in the country arises precisely because everyone today says what they think about a given topic, even if they have no idea about it – Zbigniew Boniek, President of the Polish Football Association tells Onet.
Due to the difficult epidemic situation, is the helmsman of Polish football afraid of the re-suspension of league games? – The situation is very dynamic and it is difficult to predict anything. This also applies to football. Some teams play games as normal, even though they have two or three sick people who are in isolation. Other clubs are banned from the Department of Health and Safety and such scenarios also need to be understood, because it is the parent organization. We must move forward, but respecting all possible safety rules. As the Polish Football Association, we try to do what we can. Recently, stadiums have been closed for fans again, but due to what is happening in the country, this is not a topic that we should talk about today – says “Zibi”.
According to Bonek, the decision-making bodies in Polish football are equal to the task. – I do not agree that due to the pandemic chaos reigned in our football. We operate in extraordinary circumstances, so it doesn’t work now that two plus two equals four. Pandemic is not easy to deal with, we have a hundred thousand problems. We found ourselves in a difficult situation. As long as the epidemic rages in Poland, none of us will be calm. However, if we are sure that twenty-two healthy players run out on the pitch, there is no risk, even if we record ten thousand infections a day in Poland. Suppose we announce a two-week suspension of the league and things don’t get any better. Then what? – Boniek asks rhetorically.
PZPN president’s appeal to footballers
A few days ago, the head of the Polish Football Association appealed in the pages “Przegląd Sportowy” to the players.
– A football player cannot say that he is a professional today and go to discos or restaurants in the evening. It is a matter of responsibility and maturity. Let us respect the current rules, and we will go through this pandemic and finish the football season – said Boniek.
– Already in May, I said that the coronavirus would appear in teams, because it would be naive and illogical to assume that it would be miraculously avoided by footballers. If there are three or four cases of infection in the club, let’s not be hysterical – the activist pointed out.
So far, seven rounds of PKO Ekstraklasa have been played.
