Teacher’s Tail Beheaded for Cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad, 4 Students Detained

PARIS – Four students were detained by police French on suspicion of helping that man beheading the teacher. The teacher named Samuel Paty, 47, was beheaded by an 18 year old man after the victim demonstrated Prophet Muhammad cartoon to students in the discussion on freedom of expression in class.

The perpetrator of the beheading was Abdulakh Abuezidovich Anzorov, a man of ethnic Chechen, Russian, who had lived in France with his family for a long time. The detention of four students was revealed by French court sources. They are suspected of helping perpetrators identify targets in exchange for money.

The four students were among 15 people arrested over the incident. One of them has previously been convicted of terrorism-related crimes and confessed to having had a relationship with the man who killed Paty.

The attacker had lived in the city of Evreux in northwest Paris. He was previously unknown to the intelligence services.

On Sunday, thousands of demonstrators gathered at Place de la Republique carrying posters reading; “Not to totalitarianism of thought”, and “I am a teacher”.

“You don’t scare us. We are not afraid. You will not divide us. We are France !, “Prime Minister Jean Castex wrote on Twitter. He joined the demonstration in Paris.

Friday’s attack is the second since trials began last month over the massacre at editorial offices Charlie Hebdo 2015. Last month, a man injured two people in an attack near the magazine’s former offices. (Also read: Teacher Beheaded, France Will Expel 231 Radical Foreigners)

The magazine republished the controversial cartoon ahead of the trial.

Darmanin said more police operations were ongoing. The Interior Minister said there were about 80 investigations underway into online hate speech in France and he was investigating whether certain groups of France’s Muslim community should be dissolved following accusations of promoting violence and hatred.
