Almost two million Flemish viewers for the unique edition of the Tour of Flanders

Last Sunday’s Tour of Flanders resulted in particularly high viewing figures in Belgium. The VRT reports that almost two million Flemish viewers watched the Flemish High Mass via Sporza. The peak moment was at the finish of the men’s competition.

In total, more than 1.4 million Flemish people saw Mathieu van der Poel win the sprint at a quarter to four against his eternal rival Wout van Aert. At that time, the Tour of Flanders accounted for a market share of 86.4 percent. So of all Flemish TV viewers at that time, almost nine out of ten people watched the race.

The Tour of Flanders also scored well in the Netherlands. According to Viewing Research Foundation On average 385 thousand people watched the afternoon broadcast of Studio Sport at the NOS. However, the broadcast reached about 1.5 million viewers (who watched for at least a minute). The market share between 1:30 pm and 4:00 pm was about 18 percent.

It is not very surprising that the viewing figures are so high. All fans were urged not to come and see the course in connection with the corona measures. All hills and cobblestone strips were therefore kept free of the public.
