New police chief promises to turn against negative communication of police officers with the public / Article / LSM.lv

The new Chief of the State Police, Armands Ruks, emphasizes the importance of police communication with the public and promises to address unreasonable non-listening, rejection or negative communication of the population.

In the Latvian Radio program “Krustpunktā”, Ruks emphasized that the task of the police is to provide the public with the service entrusted to the police and to do so with high quality, and this also includes communication with the public.

He promised to take strong action against the police in the event of any unjustified dislike of the people, in the unjustified disregard of the population, and in particular in the event of any “illegal activity with various forms of expression”.

He also called on police officers to remember the oath that “we serve the public interest”.

He also pointed out that in the future in the police “there will definitely be changes in the staff as well”, but everything with a very good goal, “I will not look at my nose now”, but everything will be objective.

CONTEXT:

In mid-October, he became the head of the State Police Confirmed Armands Ruks, who was not among the three public candidates mentioned above for this position, who was unexpectedly nominated by the Minister. The coalition partners had no objections to this candidacy. Experts already expressedthat the new police chief will not be challenged.

They had applied for the position of VP chief in the competition three police officers – Deputy Head of the Main Administrative Department of the VP, Colonel Normunds Grūbis and the only generals in the police service – the current acting Head of the VP Andrejs Grišins and the Head of the Riga Region Administration Juris Šulte.

The leader of the competition was Andrejs Grišins, the current acting head of the State Police, but he had health problems during the competition. Therefore, another candidate was sought. Grishin himself did not confirm his resignation, but pointed out that a conversation with the minister led to such a result.

At the end of last year, the former head of the VP, General Ints Ķuzis, accepted decision to resign. February 10 was the last working day for Kuzis as the head of the VP. From February 11 until the end of the competition, Grišins, the head of the Main Criminal Police Department, was appointed the acting head of the VP.
