‘Houses receive a label to indicate quality of the foundations’ | NOW

From next year, houses will receive a foundation label when they are appraised, the program reports The Monitor from KRO-NCRV Monday. This label indicates how great the risks are that houses will subside.

In a message on the site of the Knowledge Center Approach Funderingsproblematiek (KCAF) it is stated that there will be five different categories to reflect the quality of the foundation. With the most problematic label, the house has a greatly increased risk. There are already signs of damage, or the property is sinking much faster than others in the area.

According to The Monitor About 250,000 houses in the Netherlands run the risk of being classified in the problem group. The costs to restore the foundation are for the owner and can be in the tons.

According to the KCAF, the label is still in a testing phase. The assessment looks at issues such as fungal damage caused by dryness of wooden posts, bacterial damage and a lack of bearing capacity.
