In the last hours One of the two patients who were admitted to the ICU has died at the Hospital de Montecelo. It is about Francisco Rapalo Comendador, who was Chief Admiral of the Cantabrian Maritime Zone. I was 79 years old and natural of Vilagarcía where was it named Favorite Son by the municipal corporation, in August 2000.
Among his many occupations as a professional military man in the Navy, during the Gulf War of 1990-91 he was in command of the Bravo Group, sent by the Spanish government to enforce UN resolutions on the Iraq embargo.
In 1996 he became Chief Admiral of the Straits Maritime Zone and later, in 1998, the Fleet Headquarters and command of the European Maritime Force (Euromarfor). His last destination before his transfer to the reserve was the headquarters of the Cantabrian Sea Zone.
In August, while on vacation in Sanxenxo, he contracted the coronavirus. He was admitted for several days at the Quirón Miguel Domínguez Hospital, but was later transferred to the Montecelo ICU, as his situation worsened. Today he passed away due to complications derived from Covid19.
Fate occurs that his wife, daughter and grandchildren also tested positive for coronavirus and they are in quarantine in Sanxenxo. A situation that will prevent them from attending the funeral of their relative; to be held at the Rubiáns municipal cemetery. One of the harshest effects of this pandemic.
With this case, they are 18 people who have died in the Pontevedra-Salnés health area due to coronavirus.
The latest SERGAS report indicates that today there are 271 patients in this health area, 24 new cases in the last 24 hours. There is one patient in the Montecelo ICU and 8 admitted to the ward.
Although there are 52 new cases in two days, the health area affirms that there is no outbreak detected, that all are isolated cases. Also from the Management they still do not want to provide more detailed information about the pandemic, such as the number of positives by municipalities. Information that is given in other health areas but for the moment Pontevedra-Salnés refuses to provide.
In the Santiago-Deza-Barbanza area, 659 patients were reached; and the situation in Lalín is particularly worrying, where there are already more than 50 patients.
In the last hours, a new outbreak of 15 cases has been detected in a hospitality establishment; to which must be added the 8 cases of the Domus Vi residence. And in Silleda, the cases also continue to increase and there are already 15 infections.
Also the Naval Academy reported this afternoon that it is applying a rigorous control plan to begin the training course. At the moment 294 students have joined and on the 10th the first year will do so.
The presence of coronavirus antibodies in 8 of them led to their being isolated, in a separate building until the corresponding PCR tests were negative.
The Naval School informs that for this reason, since their arrival at the Naval Military School, no student has gone for a walk; and that it will be this weekend when they have an exit permit, in very restrictive conditions to avoid contagion.
