Manchester’s light blue heroes have had a tough start to the season and stand with only seven points after one loss, one draw and one win in the season’s first three games.
Thus, it was important for City to strike back with a new three points after two games without a victory in the Premier League.
Pep’s former assistant Arteta, on the other hand, has had a better start to the season with his subjects and stands with three victories in four games.
At Etihad on Saturday night, there was a close and even affair between the two managers. After the match, TV 2’s football expert Brede HAngeland praised the tactical match the two coaches delivered.
– I could hardly see what the coaches were doing, it was so complicated. There is such a tactically high level of what they are doing with these here, that you get a little sweaty from looking at it, Hangeland said during the break.
But after just over twenty minutes, the home team took the lead. Raheem Sterling was uncertain before the start, but the tests before the match were good and the winger could start.
Guardiola was happy with that for Sterling sent the home team in the lead on a return from Phil Foden after 20 minutes.
It was an even affair at Etihad and little separated the teams in the second half. David Luiz, who came in for Rob Holding after the latter had to come out with an injury on the warm-up, was close to doubling the lead for City with an own goal.
Luiz was dangerously close to controlling a post from João Cancelo in his own goal, but escaped with the horror. Thus, it ended 1-0 and City took their first three points after the start of the series.
