With a painful grimace, Virgil van Dijk stumbled off the field in the Merseyside Derby against Everton. After a rash intervention from goalkeeper Jordan Pickford, the Dutch defender was unable to continue playing.
Coach Jürgen Klopp fears a serious injury for his rock in defense. “Virgil always plays with pain, but now he couldn’t even go on. So that’s not a good sign,” said the German.
Van Dijk was immediately taken to hospital for further examinations. There are fears of a cruciate ligament injury, which could keep the Dutch on the sidelines for months.
