The invisible heritage of Santiago de Compostela. The doors of closed buildings and unusual public spaces are opened.
Santiago de Compostela hides many treasures behind each of those imposing buildings that you can see on any tour of its beautiful old town, it is called the invisible heritage of Santiago de Compostela. There are many nooks – public or private – that keep the history of the city, appreciable through its architecture, but also more immaterial linked to the uses of each of these buildings. They are stories that remain hidden behind large buildings that are barely open to the general public. But from now on they will.

For five days, Santiago de Compostela will make this heritage visible with the Invisible Heritage Week, after the celebration of the Noite do Patrimonio. Organized by the Department of Culture, up to 50 guided tours will open the doors and dust off some fragments of Compostela’s history, such as the Ramirás pazo (former College of the Irish), the Hostal dos Reis Católicos, the San Roque hospital (built in the 16th century to deal with the epidemics that ravaged the city), the Gothic house (14th century Compostela civil architecture), the Amarante pazo, Fonseca with the impressive América library, the Ánimas chapel and two more recent architectural contributions; the headquarters of the SGAE and the Construction Labor Foundation.
Several routes through the old springs of the city will complete an offer that until Friday will display fifty guided tours in groups of maximum eight people. Visits to discover this most invisible heritage of Santiago de Compostela are free, but you have to book, HERE.
