The Public Prosecution Service in Limburg is looking for the file of an old, unsolved rape case from 1990. There may be a connection with Jos B. who is on trial for the abuse and killing of Nicky Verstappen in 1998.
The OM has taken action after questions from the crime site Femke Fataal. There is a interview with the rape victim in 1990, a 13-year-old boy at the time. The NOS also spoke to the victim.
The case was not resolved at the time. Two years ago, when the police asked for tips about Jos B., the victim went to the police with his story. He saw similarities between his rape and previous sex crimes committed by Jos B. in 1984 and 1985.
Witness
Despite promises from the police that he would be heard as a witness, that did not happen. It is unclear why.
The OM has now decided to take up the case after all. It remains to be seen whether that will work. The file from 1990 is not in the archive system that the police now uses.
If the file is found, it cannot lead to a lawsuit, because the rape is time-barred. However, if there appears to be a connection with Jos B., the file may shed light on the way in which he approaches his victims.
