160,000 euros approved for the renovation of the Sarabia Theater in Carrión de los Condes | Radio Palencia

The Governing Council has authorized the Ministry of Culture and Tourism the award of a grant of 160.000 euros al Carrión Town Hall of the Counts to carry out roof rehabilitation and conditioning interventions in the Sarabia Theater.

The City Council of Carrión de los Condes, owner of the building where the Sarabia Theater inaugurated in 1927 is located, has requested financial assistance from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism by awarding a subsidy that helps to finance the expenses corresponding to carrying out the Actions for the rehabilitation of the roof and conditioning of the vertical envelopes of the Sarabia Theater. Inaugurated in 1927, it has a historical-artistic and architectural importance reflected in the Catalog of protected elements-Architectural Catalog of the Special Plan for the Protection of the Historic Site of the Camino de Santiago in Carrión de los Condes.

The financial aid provided by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism with this subsidy to the town council, owner of the building, contributes to financing the renovation of the roof and conditioning of the theater’s vertical envelopes. With this action, not only a part of the Community’s heritage is restored and protected, in this case of the province of Palencia, through the rehabilitation of the building and the revitalization of the area, but also the maintenance of use is guaranteed. cultural assets that comprise it.

The actions that are the object of the subsidy entail the recovery of the building where the Sarabia theater is located so that, once the deficiencies and current problems have been eliminated, it is possible to resume the use of the building for the performance of various cultural activities, among which are the corresponding to the Network of Theaters of Castilla y León.

It should be noted that this building is included in the protection environment of the Camino de Santiago as it passes through Carrión de los Condes and is considered one of the cultural epicenters of the municipality. In this sense, the Las Edades del Hombre Foundation plans to develop the XXV edition of the exhibition cycle within the framework of the celebration of Jacobeo 2021 in which, in addition to Burgos and Sahagún, it includes Carrión de los Condes, which will contribute to the development and promotion of various initiatives to attract companies and services that give impulse and economic development throughout the area.

The rehabilitation actions

The building presents a problem of humidity, leaks and several main structural elements damaged by humidity such as wooden beams and trusses, having been reinforced. The area in worst condition is located on the stage and the stage. Likewise, the secondary structure presents a deformation, generating leaks that can cause the detachment of elements on the ceiling of the stalls. In this sense, the deteriorated thermal insulation capacity of the current roof makes the passage of water possible due to this deficiency. The existence of stains on the eaves of the building, as well as the existing leaks on the roof, suggest that there is damage to the top of the perimeter walls of the building.

Faced with this situation, the actions that are the object of the subsidy aim to guarantee the tightness of the building against the leaks that are currently taking place as well as to repair the damage that they have produced. Thus, in the roof area, the secondary roof structure will be replaced over the stalls and entrances and structural elements damaged by moisture, eliminating the current coverage on the entire roof and creating a new coverage. . In addition, gutters and downspouts and other elements of the main facade will be replaced. Likewise, the replacement of exterior carpentry, the painting or rendering of exterior walls and the repair of the upper rear part of the main facade will be undertaken.
