Today, Thursday, the Ministry of Health and Population circulated a new definition for diagnosing suspected and infected cases of the emerging coronavirus, “Covid-19”, to all hospitals and health directorates.
According to a publication obtained by Masrawy, the new definition divided the cases into suspected, probable, and confirmed cases.
The General Department of Epidemiology and Surveillance at the Ministry of Health said that the suspected case is: Any person suffering from one or more of the following symptoms:
Severe respiratory symptoms (coughing, shortness of breath).
A high temperature of more than 38 degrees.
A sudden loss of smell and taste.
It comes with or without any of the accompanying and non-specific symptoms of a particular disease such as vomiting, nausea, diarrhea, headache, muscle aches, fatigue, and sore throat.
Besides, the suspected case includes a reserved patient with severe acute respiratory disease “sari” who suffers from a high temperature of more than 38 degrees, and a cough, with no other causes during the last 10 days from the date on which symptoms appeared.
As for the possible cases, it is a suspected case with any of the following conditions present within 14 days before symptoms appear:
Direct contact of a possible or laboratory confirmed case with pcr with the Coronavirus.
– It is epidemiologically related to the collection of suspected cases with acute respiratory symptoms, and one of them was confirmed with “PCR”.
A worker or frequent visitor to places of health care, which was reported to have confirmed cases of the new Corona infection.
– Contacts of a death case who suffered from acute respiratory symptoms before death.
It also includes the probable condition, any suspected condition for which the following diagnostic characteristics apply:
The presence of a CT scan on the chest (if a normal chest X-ray is not available) with diagnostic features for Corona infection.
– A blood analysis showing the likely characteristics of corona infection (a normal or low white blood cell count with low lymphocytes).
The definition clarified that the confirmed case is a suspected or potential case that was laboratory confirmed to be infected with a pcr analysis with “Covid-19” infection.
