Concerns about the faster spread of Covid-19 have increased the interest of the population in purchasing and using health insurance policies, reports the insurance company Compensa Life. Although in the first wave of Covid-19 from March to August this year the use of health insurance services and the amount of claims paid in major medical institutions decreased by 30 to 60%, the amount of claims paid has now returned to the level of the previous year, Compensa Life“ aggregated data.
“Unlike spring, now Covid-19 in the second wave of proliferation, the work of medical institutions will basically continue in the usual mode. This means that the use of health insurance policies is not limited and they are a good support to the population in solving topical health issues, ”Viktors Gustsons, Compensa Life” Head of the Latvian branch.
Due to the Covid-19 outbreak, many treatment facilities have significantly increased prices for certain services, including vaccination against infectious diseases, medical consultations, and surgeries. Patients, as well as insurers, have to reckon with higher costs when receiving services. This can be explained by the fact that in the price of services or separately the fee for medical materials for limiting Covid -19 is indicated – masks, gloves, gowns, disinfectants, etc., explains V. Gustsons.
Insurers’ observations show that the population is currently particularly active in using the services of medical institutions due to concerns about stricter restrictions on Covid-19, and the rise in the prices of services does not deter them from visiting a doctor. Currently, there is a high demand for organized vaccinations against influenza and pneumococcal infection among health insurance policyholders – legal entities.
