Spokesperson for the Covid-19 Task Force Reisa Broto Asmoro said vaccines and vaccinations have dual benefits, namely protecting yourself and the environment.

He continued, many pandemics have been successfully overcome with vaccines. That way, vaccines and vaccination measures are considered effective in quelling the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Giving vaccines either by injection or dropping into the mouth aims to form antibodies in the body that will play an effective role in preventing certain diseases to protect oneself,” Reisa said in a press release from the Committee for Handling Covid-19 and National Economic Recovery (KPC PEN) which received on Thursday (15/10).


Immunization or the process of forming immunity in the body because vaccination can help a person become immune to certain viruses. At an advanced stage, vaccinations can help establish it herd immunity or herd immunity.

“Immunization is an important way to get out of the pandemic,” he said.

Ensure Safe

Reisa emphasized that the government must ensure the safety and effectiveness of vaccines used by the public.

“The process of making vaccines is always carried out through various long stages and meets strict procedures so that they can be produced. Then they can be distributed to the public,” he said.

Currently, a number of institutions in various countries, including Indonesia, are completing the clinical trial phase of vaccines. The Covid-19 vaccine is expected to be available and affordable by the public in 2021.

Among several institutions that are developing the Covid-19 vaccine, PT Bio Farma is working with Sinovac. This vaccine development process has reached phase III clinical trials in Bandung, West Java.

In addition, there is a vaccine developed by PT Kimia Farma together with G24 United Arab Emirates, which has also entered the phase III clinical trial phase.

Later, PT Kalbe Farma collaborated with Genexine Korea and is currently entering the phase I and IIA clinical trial process.
