KONTAN.CO.ID – PARIS / PRAGUE. The corona virus is rocking Europe. France imposed a curfew, while other European countries closed schools, canceled operations in hospitals and enlisted medical workers as authorities overwhelmed the nightmare scenario of a revival of Covid-19 in early winter.

Launch Reuters, with the number of new cases reaching around 100,000 every day, the gap between Europe and the United States has widened, with the US adding an average of more than 51,000 Covid-19 infections reported every day.

With cases of infection in France rising rapidly, French President Emmanuel Macron announced a four-week curfew starting Saturday (17/10/2020) in Paris and other major cities. This policy is certain to affect nearly a third of the country’s 67 million population.

“We have to react,” Macron said in an interview on national television as quoted Reuters.

He said France had not lost control of the virus, but added: “We are in an alarming situation.”

Meanwhile, most European governments have begun easing lockdowns over the summer to begin reviving economies already hit by the first wave of the coronavirus pandemic. But the return to normal activities triggered a sharp spike in cases across the Blue Continent.

Bars and pubs were among the first to close or face early closure in the new lockdown. With infection rates soaring, European governments must rack the brains of how schools and non-Covid medical care can continue.
