The companies have adapted to work in Covid-19 conditions, on Wednesday in an interview with the Latvian Television program “Rīta Panorāma” the president of the Latvian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) said Aigars Rostovskis.
“The first wave has trained, taught, so many companies have prepared and adapted,” said Rostovsky, noting that there are also some industries, such as hotels and tourism, where the situation is critical.
At the same time, he also said that the crisis was not the right time for tax reform. “Currently, entrepreneurs have to solve other problems,” the LCCI president emphasized.
At the same time, Rostovsky mentioned that the planned changes in the tax system will be the first step in the direction of competitiveness, as labor taxes will be reduced by one percentage point. “It’s really positive,” he said, calling on lawmakers to take the next steps in further reducing the tax burden.
The President of the LCCI also expressed the opinion that the minimum social contribution should be paid by the employee and not by the employer. “We believe that the minimum social contribution should be paid by the person himself, not by the employer,” said Rostovsky, adding that such a regulation would be especially important if a person works in several jobs.
LCCI is an association of entrepreneurs, which unites micro, small, medium and large companies from all regions of Latvia and economic sectors. The chamber has almost 6,000 members, including about 3,000 sole proprietorships and about 3,000 associations representing entrepreneurs. The turnover of the individual members of the LCCI – companies – in 2019 exceeded 17.2 billion euros. LCCI represents the interests of its members in state and local government institutions, fighting for a better business environment, provides support to members, helps to increase the competitiveness of companies, as well as helps to find new cooperation partners in Latvia and abroad.
