The Andante residential care center in Menen is home to 188 people and 170 employees. 50 residents have already been infected and 30 employees. Most residents are not ill, but a few have already ended up in hospital. In the meantime, two COVID departments have been established in the residential care center. The visit has been suspended for the time being.
In the residential care center they do everything they can to keep working. Employees who have tested positive and have no symptoms yet will continue to care for the infected residents, says Alderman Renaat Vandenbulcke (N-VA): “Staff members who are infected, who are not sick, may continue to work in the COVID department where they, of course, do not have any can infect other people, because they are already infected. “
According to the ships, the service remains guaranteed and they should not panic. But they have to make do with what they have: “If we replace all employees who are infected and – we hope they don’t all get sick of course – then we will have an even bigger problem with personnel than we already have.”
In the residential care center Het Gulle Heem in Gullegem near Wevelgem, 17 residents and 5 staff members also tested positive for corona.
