The iPhone 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max also gets the new Apple ProRAW feature. This allows users to take RAW photos, which use the automatic image enhancement that is normally applied to iPhone photos. The image format offers the same advantages as RAW, with greater possibilities for post-processing than with regular, compressed photos.
The iPhone 12 Pro can also record videos in HDR 10 and Dolby Vision HDR. Never before could users record in Dolby Vision with a smartphone. The images can also be edited on the iPhone.
Mini and Max only available in November
The iPhone 12 and 12 Mini have an aluminum edge and are available in the colors black, white, dark blue, mint green and bright red. The Pro models have a metal bezel and come in blue, gold, silver and gray.
The iPhone 12 (909 euros) and 12 Pro (1159 euros) can be ordered from October 16 and will be delivered on October 23.
The iPhone 12 Mini (809 euros) and iPhone 12 Pro Max (1259 euros) will follow with pre-orders on November 6 and deliveries from November 13.
The iPhone 12 and 12 Mini come with 64, 128 and 256 GB storage space, the 12 Pro models with 128, 256 and 512 GB storage space.
No earphones and adapter in box
Apple takes another striking step: it no longer supplies wired earplugs, and no charging block. The new iPhones only come with a USB-C to Lightning cable, users must purchase a charging block themselves.
Eliminating the accessories makes the iPhone cases smaller and lighter, and therefore less harmful to the environment. According to Apple, leaving out the accessories saves the same amount of time as 450,000 cars off the road.
Magnetic back and charger
Also new is the MagSafe charger: a magnetic charger that takes its name from the earlier chargers of the MacBook. Due to the magnetic connection, the coupling is simple, and it comes loose when the cord is pulled.
By using magnets, the charger always clicks on the correct charging point, which sometimes goes wrong with normal wireless chargers. Cases and other accessories can also be magnetically attached to the iPhone 12, such as a holder for cards. In addition, Apple comes with a foldable MagSafe charger with which an iPhone and Apple Watch can be charged simultaneously.
