Voetbal Vlaanderen stops all games in amateur football | Lower classes

Yesterday Marc Van Craen, the chairman of Voetbal Vlaanderen, already made it seem that with the new, stricter measures it would be very difficult to organize matches in field football.

That vision was followed today by the Board of Directors. “The competitions from 2nd amateur (officially 2nd national) to 4th provincial and recreational football will be discontinued for an indefinite period”, confirms Van Craen.

“Youth matches up to the U17 will still be allowed and we will also allow friendly matches, if they take place in our own region.”

The difference between official matches and friendly matches is the use of the dressing room. “You should not underestimate this function during league matches. The dressing room is an essential part, also for meetings, among other things. You get that less with friendly matches. Moreover, the displacements are less far in the latter.”

“The economic consequences of these decisions will all in all be better than expected. There will be less income, but players will no longer have to be paid.”

The youth football players are spared all this. “We still want to give the youth a perspective. That mental aspect was emphasized during the meeting.”
