At the end of October, the Latvian national airline airBaltic will operate two flights organized by travel agencies over Kurzeme and Vidzeme, said airBaltic representative Alise Briede.
On Saturday, October 24, a flight over Vidzeme – Sigulda and Gauja National Park organized by the travel agency “Goal Events” will take place. On Sunday, October 25, a flight organized by the travel agency “Balt-Go” along the coast of Kurzeme is planned. 135 passengers will be offered the opportunity to travel.
The airline explained that in other countries, similar flights, the main purpose of which is to enjoy the local landscape or celebrate a historical event, take place quite regularly. airBaltic positively evaluates the initiative of the travel agency, organizing such a flight in Latvia as well.
Briede expressed that it will allow passengers to enjoy the best that flying can provide – an opportunity to observe the scenic nature of Latvia, enjoy the professional attention of the crew and local cuisine.
To organize the flight, the travel agencies have agreed with airBaltic to lease the aircraft and flight crew. As with other charter flights, airBaltic receives a fixed fee from the agency that is independent of aircraft occupancy.
It has already been reported that the airBaltic Group’s turnover decreased by 63.6% in the first half of this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic – to 78.713 million euros, while the group’s losses increased almost seven times and amounted to 184.77 million euros. AirBaltic’s audited turnover last year was 503.281 million euros, which is 23.1% more than in 2018, but the company suffered a loss of 7.729 million euros compared to the profit a year earlier.
The Latvian state owns 96.14% of the voting rights in the capital of airBaltic, while Aircraft Leasing 1, owned by the financial investor, Danish businessman Lars Tussen, owns 3.86%.
