The “unfair price” at Direct Presa

“The unfair price” is the title of the last episode of the autumn cycle of “PresaDiretta”, broadcast on Monday 12 October at 21.20 on Rai3.
During the lockdown, supermarkets did a great deal: sales rose 9% with a peak of 22% for fresh produce and vegetable prices for the consumer rose by up to 8.4%. But for the Italian producers there was no gain: they continued to sell fruit and vegetables below the cost of production. Who really earned it? Has anyone speculated on the prices of our food? And, after the lockdown, are prices back to what they were before? The “PresaDiretta” survey dedicated to the food supply chain and its imbalances will try to answer these questions. We will try to understand what role all the protagonists of the supply chain played, what the real balance of power is and why during the lockdown for consumers, the prices of fruit and vegetables increased at a rate 40 times higher than inflation.
“PresaDiretta” has managed to tell the closed and complex world of auctions on food products and the underwater world of men and women who work the land, exploited and without rights, which is at the end of the chain.
The story then continues with the positive models of the new food supply chains, where laborers, producers and supermarkets work together to produce quality food, ethical and respecting everyone’s rights.
Finally, a journey into the hinterland of Tuscany, between the hills of Chianti and Montalcino, in the most beautiful villas in Italy, where until a few months ago thousands of foreigners organized fairytale weddings. A dramatic story about the crisis in the flower sector and the most famous wines in the world. Guest of Riccardo Iacona, the minister of agricultural, food and forestry policies, Teresa Bellanova.
“The unfair price” is a story by Riccardo Iacona with Giulia Bosetti, Marianna De Marzi and Alessandro Marcelli.
