Warren Fernald, who is the grandfather of today’s newborn, was last born in a small island community in 1927. Other children were born in hospitals or in the mainland USA, according to the Bangor Daily News server. Azalea Belle Gray was born to her parents as the sixth child, and since the birth was uncomplicated, it could have taken place at home.

Islesford is otherwise also known as Little Cranberry Island and together with the neighboring island of Great Cranberry has about 142 permanent residents.
