Olivia de Heviland, the last actress of the film “With the Winds”, died

The two-time Oscar winner has now become the last ever-invited actress to star in the 1939 film Gone With the Wind. She played Melania in the film, starring Vivien Lee and Clark Gable.

The role on the film “With the Winds” gave de Haville the first Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress. But she lost to “Windward” actress Hetty McDaniel, who became the first black Academy Award winner in the United States.

In 1946, de Haville received the first Oscar for the film “To Each His Own.” She won her second US Academy Award in 1949 for The Heiress.

De Haville opposed the Warner Bros. film studio, which at the time had very tight control over the actors’ careers. In 1945, he was released from court by a seven-year contract with the studio. The decision also allowed other actors to decide more freely on which roles and career direction to choose.

“I am very proud of this decision because it fixed a serious problem in the contract system. No one thought I would win, but it happened,” de Heviland said. During the trial, she was pushed out of the industry, but after a favorable outcome, she became a very successful actress.

De Haville has starred in nearly 50 feature films in his more than 50-year career, but worked in television in the 1980s. “The television business destroys the soul, the talent and the people,” she said at the time.
