the wireless roads project

ElectReon Wireless is about to launch an inductive charging system dedicated to electric vehicles in Germany: these are roads that will allow vehicles to be recharged as they pass.

An ultra-avant-garde project that could definitively eliminate one of the greatest anxieties related to electric cars: theirs autonomy. The ElectReon Wireless, an Israeli company, would be developing a charging system inductive of zero-emission vehicles. In essence, the project would result in the installation of copper coils under the asphalt through which electric cars would recharge while on the move. ElectReon Wireless thanks to an agreement withEurovia, is taking his project to Germany where the experimentation should begin next December.

Wireless roads will recharge electric cars: the ElectReon Wireless project

Roads implemented with a sistema wireless capable of recharging electric vehicles while on the move. This is the ambitious project carried out by ElectReon Wireless, an Israeli company, which, thanks to an agreement with Eurovia, should start testing in December next Germany.

Within the agreement, the parties would stipulate that for 5 years the project will be developed by mutual agreement “street with inductive electric charging“Being able to make use, according to the needs, of single operators. Eurovia will be responsible for distributing the recharging system throughout the territory, while ElectReon will be responsible for installing and maintaining the systems. But how should this system work and how is it structured? First there is a ‘Unit Under-Road. The system developed by the Israeli company involves the installation, under the asphalt surface at a depth of 8 centimeters, of copper coils which are activated when vehicles pass.

Then there is one Management unit dedicated to the transfer of energy from the electrical network to the road network capable of communicating with approaching vehicles. To these two Unit add that “vehicle“. A receiver will be installed on the floor of the vehicle, able to bring energy to the engine and the battery while driving. Finally, there will be aUnit control (CCU) which works on the Cloud and is able to communicate with all management units and vehicles.

I advantages of this system, needless to say, would be innumerable. First of all, the elimination of the autonomy problem, one of the factors that most makes purchasing reticent. Added to this is the elimination of the, certainly not very aesthetic, charging columns. And again, the elimination of CO2 emissions due to electrification works. Finally, a reduction in the size of the battery, because with the ElectReon system your receiver will weigh just over 12 kilograms and will have contained measures.

The project, in Germany, will start next December 2020 and the center chosen for the experimentation is Karlsruhe. It will be tested with E-bus equipped with a lithium-ion battery, therefore its first area of application will involve urban public transport.
