Test, test, test. It is crucial for a properly working corona approach. In terms of test capacity, our country is very high internationally, says Prime Minister De Croo. But the capacity still needs to increase significantly, he thinks. “It’s very clear: by the end of the month I want that capacity to double.”
“We are getting ready to double that capacity. That is an important element to make sure that people who have had high-risk contact can be tested and quickly find out what their situation is.” Prime Minister.
De Croo reiterates that he realizes that the government is asking a lot of people now that the corona measures have been made stricter again. “It also takes a long time. But our behavior determines the survival chances of the vulnerable people. We have it in our hands.”
One of the stricter measures is the closing time of cafés. That has been brought forward to 11 pm. Last night was the last night that bars were allowed to stay open until 1am. On the Oude Markt in Leuven, dozens of students flouted the basic rules against corona. “That is not good, I condemn that”, Prime Minister De Croo responds. “It concerns a number of people who clearly have not understood what their responsibility in society is.”
