“I agreed without thinking”, its internationally renowned artist, soprano Liene Kinča, tells about the concert, which will take place on October 10 in the concert hall “Cēsis” in cooperation with Andrejs Žagars Cultural Development Fund and the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra.
Andrejs Žagars has been a friend and support in the life of Liene Kinča. The singer is grateful for the opportunities given to her as a future singer, for the opportunities to grow, develop and believe in herself:
“It is very difficult for me to still talk about Andrejs in the form of the past. From time to time I still want to pick up the phone and write to him.
For me, Andrejs is still today – with his energy, inspiration, creativity, vision, love for opera, art and singers. ”
Andrejs Žagars set goals for himself in his life. Ambitious, of course, but also knew how to rely on others, including much of their intuition. The singer says: “His great gift from God was intuition. He really knew and felt what was right and what needed to be done at the right time and place. At times he was harsh, his words could hurt, but it was all about the matter. ”
“He was waiting for me to grow up,” says Liene Kinča about the honor given to her to sing at the Andrejs Žagars memorial concert. On October 10, music that was important to him will be played in Cēsis. Listeners will be able to hear excerpts from both Andrejs Žagars’ staged and dreamed works, which the director failed to realize. “I am very happy to be able to play with Andris Pog in Richard Wagner’s” The Love Death of Isolde “, because I know that Andrei’s big dream was to perform” Tristan and Isolde “.”
The emergency situation in the world has introduced certain adjustments – Andris Poga will conduct Italian maestro Sesto Quatriini in the upcoming concert, but the singer believes that the concert will only win. Along with Liene Kinča, Alexander Antonenko, Zanda Švēde and Rinalds Kandalincevs will play music on Saturday evening, and the program has been arranged by Artūrs Maskats.
Asked how the artist’s life has been affected by the coronavirus, she replies: “I am very happy that I had the opportunity to sing in Latvia again. Of course, a lot has been canceled, but I do not want to talk about it.
Many artists have suffered greatly from this situation, I am no exception, but let’s hope everything goes well. “
But now the artist has a feeling that life is still intense – it was necessary to gather resources and strength for a creative marathon for three weeks, working onThe roles of Abigail and Tuscany.
“Abigail had my debut – it was already scheduled for March, but it didn’t happen, because the first big wave of Covid-19 came to a halt, which stopped the world. The debut took place this fall, on the occasion of Samson Izjumov’s 70th anniversary. Itis one of my dream roles – Verdi is very close to me, and from the moment I entered the opera as a choir at the age of 18, Abigaila always seemed to me an inaccessible peak. I hope I did it with honor and that “Nabucco” will appear more and more on my calendar. “
Meanwhile, the “Toskas” show was held with a busy schedule and intense rehearsals. It seemed a bit tiring for the artists, and to refresh the nuances, he lacked the director’s presence, but the soloist admits that the whole composition has changed and grown. The next Toskas show is scheduled for October 15, and Liene Kinča hopes that “we will all be in good health and nothing will stop the culture from growing and developing.”
“After that, I will try to get a Russian visa and get to my spouse – that is my next goal. It is now an almost impossible mission. I have creative plans for Moscow, I am also invited to sing “Nabucco” there, but I don’t know how it could happen. In Moscow, the situation is risky. There, too, the theaters are allowed to be temporarily closed. So now to say what tomorrow will be is a complete utopia – you have to live today, ”says the singer.
The artist has not enjoyed being forced to stay at home. “I was not in any comfort zone – it seemed to me to be apocalyptic: the world has stopped and nothing is happening. My personal empathy goes hand in hand with the pain of the people who have been personally affected by the virus, so I can’t say it’s cool, it’s finally time for myself. I hope that nightmare will end soon: we must face this terrible year. “
It is also not pleasant to see the auditorium with sparse rows.
Nowadays, both listeners who are afraid to go to theaters and concerts, and the singer herself are cautious, realizing the responsibility that they have to step on the stage soon, and communicating with people inadvertently can also lead to self-isolation.
But there are hopes that everything will be in order in the future, at least next year. Kincha notes: “I very much hope that everything planned will be realized after January and the planned productions will take place. I am also preparing something completely new for the Wagner Festival – it is a role in Wagner’s first opera “Fairy”, which he wrote at the age of 19. I hope that everything will happen, and this is a new step and a challenge for me. The role is very complicated, because Wagner did not yet know the voice of the singers at that time and combined many things in one place: there I hear Weber, Verdi, Mozart, as well as Wagner himself. Quite a big vocal tangle to deal with. ”
