LIVE | De Jonge: new measures necessary without breaking the trend | Inland

If the number of infections does not decrease, the cabinet is “forced to take additional measures”, says Minister Hugo de Jonge (Public Health), who is responsible for tackling the corona virus. More than 5,800 new corona cases were reported on Thursday.

Around the weekend or early next week, a trend break should be visible in the infections, according to De Jonge. If that is insufficient, “you cannot avoid taking additional measures.” The number of infections has been growing rapidly in recent days. On Tuesday there were about 4,500, Wednesday about 5,000.

According to the minister, scaling down can only be done if the contamination pressure is so lower that you can also keep the R (the number of people who re-infect an infected person) below one with fewer measures. “At the moment there is little reason to assume that.”

The cabinet will discuss the advice of the OMT next Tuesday. De Jonge did not yet want to discuss possible additional steps.
