Court rejects government-imposed lockdown in Spanish capital Madrid

On Friday, a lockdown was imposed on Madrid and nine of its suburbs, which are again hard hit by the corona virus. The measures applied to 4.5 million inhabitants of the total of nearly 7 million inhabitants of the metropolitan area.

They were no longer allowed to enter or leave the city without a valid reason. Playgrounds were also closed again and the opening hours of shops and restaurants were curtailed.

The measures had not yet entered into full force as no fines could be issued before the court had considered the case.
