Marianne Stas lives in Overijse, but her roots are in Lummen on her mother’s side. That is why she has good connections with the Equitom equine clinic. The horse Ease had an operation in that clinic, which normally took place last Monday. But it went wrong when leaving for that clinic. “We wanted to put Ease in an ambulance trailer,” says Marianne. “She walked in quite a bit there herself. But just as we were about to leave, the horse panicked. Due to his balance problem he fell and suffered trauma. After that it was absolutely impossible to get him in the trailer. the only solution was to go on foot. Walking in a straight line is still possible Ease. “
So on foot, all the way from Overijse to Meldert (Lummen). That turns out to be a tough journey. The duo is accompanied by another horse and a friend of Marianne’s. The group has been on the road for three days and should arrive in Lummen tomorrow evening. “We have to avoid the big jobs, because that is not easy with horses,” says the horse owner. “Ease has never left its home and is not used to traffic. We now only take bridleways and forest paths, making the walk 100 kilometers long.”
