Merdeka.com – The United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) yesterday updated information about the handling of the COVID-19 pandemic by saying that the coronavirus can spread through the air.
Quoting the Sputnik page, Wednesday (7/10), Kumi Smith, an assistant professor at the University of Minnesota’s Division of Epidemiology and Public Health who joined Radio Sputnik yesterday discussed the new guidelines. According to the new CDC guidelines, “Some infections can be spread by exposure to the virus in tiny droplets and particles that can remain in the air for minutes to hours. This virus can infect people who are more than 6 feet from an infected person or after that person has left the room ”.
The new guidelines add that there is also evidence of transmission in people more than 6 feet away in confined spaces with inadequate ventilation. In some cases, for example, infected people breathe heavily while singing or playing sports.
“When many HIV-positive patients stay in hospital and are on treatment for long periods of time, it is important to monitor the possibility of airborne transmission,” Smith explained.
“So make sure that in every hospital and in infectious disease wards, there are adequate ventilation systems – not just for Covid-19 – but for all respiratory diseases, to ensure that air exiting these rooms is then dumped into the sky outside the hospital,” so that later the disease does not attack anyone. For that in the hospital environment, preventive measures are important to avoid transmission of respiratory diseases, “he explained.
