Farewell to Eddie Van Halen. The legendary 65-year-old guitarist, founder of ‘Van Halen’, died today of a throat cancer for which he had long been treated. To give the news through a post on Twitter is the son, Wolfgang Van Halen: “I can’t believe I have to write it, but my father, Edward Lodewijk Van Halen, he lost his long and arduous battle with cancer this morning. He was the best father I could wish for. Every moment I spent with him on stage and off was a gift. My heart is in pieces and I don’t think I will ever fully recover from this loss. I love you so much, Dad. “
According to reports from the TMZ website, Van Halen passed away at St. John’s Hospital in Santa Monica. At his side his wife Janie, his son Wolfgang, and Alex, his brother and drummer of the band that bore their name. The guitarist’s condition had worsened in the past 72 hours and throat cancer had also affected his brain and other organs.
