Diego Schwartzman – Dominic Thiem 7–6, 5–7, 6–7, 7–6, 6–2

It was the second major Argentine achievement on the red gravel in Paris. Earlier in the day, unseeded Nadia Podoroska made it to the semifinals as the first qualifier in history.

Dominic Thiem is ranked number three in the world, but in the quarterfinals he showed weaknesses against the tough opponent Schwartzman.

The two duelists almost tried to knock each other out with thunderous exchanges. Both players are known for their powerful play and good movement out on the red gravel. The match lasted for well over five hours.

Casper Ruud, who lost to Thiem in the 3rd round, has also had big problems when Schwartzman has been on the other side of the field.

Scwartzman took home the first set against Thiem by winning the tie break 7-1. The set lasted 65 minutes.

The Austrian fought back in the next set which he won 7-5 after 71 minutes of play.

Third-seeded Thiem, who won the US Open after a five-set match against Alexander Zverev, seems to be advancing when he won the third set in tiebreak by 8-6. They spent 67 minutes on the set.

The Argentine had the lead throughout the fourth set, but Thiem went up to 30-0 at the position 6-5. However, the opponent never gave him a match ball and forced the set to a new decision in the tiebreak. Here Schwartzman was the best and won the set 7-5 after 73 minutes of play.

In the fifth and decisive set, the players followed each other to 2-2 before the 28-year-old Schwartzman broke to a 4-2 lead. He kept his own serve game to 5-2. He also managed to get a match ball in the Austrian’s next serve game and took advantage of the first chance.
