This is reported by his son Wolf, who was also the bass player in the group in recent years. Eddie Van Halen had been fighting the disease for several years.
Van Halen was born in the Netherlands in 1955 as Edward Van Halen, but moved with his parents to the United States as a child. He founded the hard rock band Van Halen in LA in the early 1970s with his brother, drummer Alex. Their debut album was released in 1978 and immediately climbed to nineteenth place on the Billboard chart. From that debut album ‘Running with the devil’ is the most famous song.
In the eighties the group gained even more popularity, which also resulted in the sales figures. The album 1984 was good for four times platinum within a year, thanks to the monstrous success of the single ‘Jump’. It gave them their only number 1 hit.
After the departure of singer David Lee Roth, the group was less successful, but the group continued to perform. In 2007 the members were inaugurated in the Rock ‘n roll Hall of fame. The group’s last studio album was released in 2012.
Eddie Van Halen was praised as lead guitarist for his fast guitar technique. He used ‘tapping’ for this, in which he plays with both the left and right hand on the neck of the guitar. His unique style made him a much sought-after guest musician, by Michael Jackson among others.
