Covid-19 has already been reported in a further 68 people in the past day, of whom 57 were infected from known sources.
Arāja admitted that 57 people had been infected with Covid-19 from people who had previously been diagnosed with the virus. All these cases are related to the spread of the virus in Daugavpils, Aizpute and Riga.
She added that no new major outbreaks of Covid-19 have been identified so far.
In total, 340,395 Covid-19 examinations have been performed in Latvia so far, infection has been detected in 2194 persons. Since the last recovery, 15 more people have recovered and 1322 people have now recovered from Covid-19. Thus, there are currently 832 active cases.
According to the National Health Service, six patients with Covid-19 have been hospitalized in the last 24 hours. A total of 32 patients are treated in hospitals, of whom 29 have a moderate course of the disease and three have a severe course of the disease. To date, 235 patients have been discharged from the hospital, including both recovered and dead.
As reported, the incidence of Covid-19 in Latvia has increased by 172% in the last two weeks, while elsewhere in Europe it has increased by about 14%, said Yuri Perevoshchikov, director of the Infectious Diseases Risk Analysis and Prevention Department at the Center for Disease Prevention and Control.
Despite the rapid spread of Covid-19, the possibility of introducing an emergency situation in Latvia for this reason, as it was done in the spring, is not yet assessed, said Prime Minister Krišjānis Kariņš (JV) in an interview with Latvijas Radio.
