Voorburgs Dagblad | Cabinet starts campaign to help each other during corona

Prime Minister Mark Rutte and Minister of Health Hugo de Jonge will give the go-ahead on Tuesday for a campaign that encourages people to pay attention to each other and to reflect on the grief that the corona virus has caused. Under the motto ‘Attention to each other’, people are called upon to drag each other through the second wave.

Rutte and De Jonge will take the lead in Den Bosch on Tuesday, where they talk to ten people from Brabant who have experienced corona from up close during the first wave. The prime minister initially wanted to organize a national day of reflection to reflect on the impact the virus has had on society. Now that it appears that the epidemic is not over yet, the government also wants to focus on problems that will only increase in the second wave, such as loneliness and unemployment.

Renske de Kleijn from Herpen is one of the people who talks to Rutte and De Jonge. Her father got corona and ended up on the ic. “It turned out fine, but it was tough. Also for my two small children.” She thinks it is important to share what the epidemic does to young children and their (grand) parents, but also how you can help each other. “Now that we are in the second wave, the social tenor is becoming more negative. I think it is nice to pay attention to positive initiatives.”

The cabinet wants actions to get off the ground at a local level. In the coming months, initiatives will be collected on the website www.aandachtvoorelkaar.nl. A number of actions, such as a theater performance for the elderly in Gelderland and a flower laying at memorial sites for corona victims in Overijssel, are already on the site. According to a spokesman for the government, the examples should “inspire” local parties and citizens to set up something themselves.
