AMD products continue to dominate the Russian market of desktop processors, but Intel has been systematically catching up with its competitor in recent months. Since May, when Comet Lake processors hit store shelves, AMD’s share has been declining. In just the past four months, Intel has managed to win back 5.9 percentage points from its rival.

The growing interest of Russian buyers in Intel products continues against the background of a change in the model range, as well as due to the fact that AMD processors have noticeably increased in price in recent months, which is largely due to the weakening of the ruble. Be that as it may, by the end of September, Intel’s share of the desktop processor market reached 44.8%. And this is the best result of the “blue” since the beginning of this year – this is evidenced by the next statistics collected by the price aggregator “Yandex Market», Which counts the transitions of service visitors to online stores for purchases of this or that product.

At the same time, only AMD products continue to be among the most popular desktop processors on the Russian market. The five most popular CPUs in the past month were formed by the six-core Ryzen 5 3600, Ryzen 5 2600 and Ryzen 5 3600X, the eight-core Ryzen 7 3700X, as well as the 12-core Ryzen 9 3900X processor. Curiously, these five accounted for almost a third of all purchases of desktop processors. Intel’s most popular processor, the Core i3-9100F, is only sixth in the list of user preferences.

The September processor top is interesting in many ways because multi-core processors have returned to it again. In the month before last, the four-core Ryzen 3 3300X and Ryzen 3 3200G held positions in the five most popular proposals in Russia, but with the beginning of the school year, users began to give preference to the more expensive Ryzen 7 3700X and even Ryzen 9 3900X. On the whole, the rise in prices has so far had little effect on the structure of consumer preferences. The leaders of the rating, Ryzen 5 3600 and Ryzen 5 2600, went up by 11-13% in September, but their market share shrank by only 2-3%, which did not entail any radical rearrangements in the top.

However, price trends threaten to further reduce the popularity of AMD processors, as they are gradually losing their important trump card – favorable prices. In addition to the Ryzen 5 3600 and Ryzen 5 2600, many of their other cousins, in particular, Ryzen 5 3500X, Ryzen 5 3400G, Ryzen 3 3300X, and Ryzen 3 3200G, also went up significantly in September. At the same time, Intel processors, especially those related to the latest generation of Comet Lake, on the contrary, are only getting cheaper. Core i9-10900K, Core i9-9900K, Core i7-10700K, Core i5-10600K and Core i3-10100 are at the forefront of this process – their average September prices were lower than August by 2-3%.
As a result, LGA 1200 processors are gaining acceptance from more and more customers, not surprisingly. If in August they accounted for 10.8% of all purchases, then in September 15.3% of buyers stopped choosing Comet Lake. The most popular processor among them in September was the six-core Core i5-10400F, for which 2.9% of Yandex.Market visitors were ready to vote in rubles.
