Drama Mik Mati Omnibus Law, Democrat Sindir Tangisan Puan

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Party Politician Democrats Andi Arief teased the chairman of the DPR RI Mrs. Maharani related to the incident of a dead microphone in the middle of the agenda of the full confirmation meeting Omnibus Law Cipta Kerja (Ciptaker Bill).

The head of the Democratic Party’s DPP Election Winning Body made an insinuation because the mic used by the Democrat faction member died while expressing his opinion amid the heat of the second-level discussion.

“Members of the Democrat Faction were talking, suddenly the mic was turned off. In the past, we just cried, we will give you a place to hang out in the pans of respect. Puan Maharani,” said Andi in an upload on his personal Twitter account @AndiArief_ on Monday (5/10).

The dead microphone drama colored the plenary meeting related to the Omnibus Law. Democratic politician Benny Kabur Harman repeatedly interrupted DPR Deputy Speaker Azis Syamsuddin who was chairing the meeting.

When the Democrats Faction expressed their views regarding the Omnibus Law Ciptaker, the Secretary of the Democratic Faction, Marwan Cik Hasan, who represented his party, also passed the deadline to speak on the podium.

Close leaders take action. Marwan’s microphone turned off unilaterally.

“We have observed that there are a number of fundamental problems with the Ciptaker Bill …,” Marwan said and the microphone turned off.

“Five minutes please, Mr. Marwan. This (microphone turns off) automatically, sir,” said Azis.

Betrayal of the People

The wing of the Democratic Party, Bintang Muda Indonesia considers the ratification of the Ciptaker Bill as a form of betrayal against the community. So far, the rejection of the bill has been widely voiced.

Even labor elements in various regions are planning a mass strike action on 6-8 October 2020 as a form of rejection of the Ciptaker Bill.

Chairman of Bintang Muda Indonesia (BMI) Farkhan Evendi assessed the actions of the government and its supporting parties in the DPR as a form of neglect of the fate of the people, especially among the workers.

“A lot of efforts have been made by fellow workers, but the government and the elite party supporters in the DPR have not shown any partiality for the workers,” said Farkhan in a written statement.

Farkhan explained that various reasons for refusal have been submitted, ranging from the problem of minimum wages, reduced severance pay, unlimited work contracts, lifetime outsourcing, excessive working time, missing leave wages, environmental issues, land and so on.

He is also worried that the domestic turmoil resulting from the production scheme designed in the Omnibus Law will cause continuing misery in various sectors, be it laborers, farmers, fishermen, as well as rural and urban communities in general.

Farkhan also appreciated the attitude of the Democratic Faction which firmly rejected the Omnibus Law Ciptaker and sided with the workers.

Democratic Party General Leader Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) apologized to the workers for their party’s failure to contain the ratification of the Omnibus Law Cipta Work (Draft Bill) in the plenary session of the House of Representatives.

AHY said his party did not have enough votes to tackle the legislation product, as expected by workers.
