The incident took place in departure hall 2 of Schiphol Airport. The situation is now under control. The injured suspect was taken to hospital by ambulance.

“The man did not respond to a repeated call to lay the knife,” said KMar spokesman Robert van Kapel. “He was swinging a very large knife. Marechaussees then acted quickly and decisively by shooting the man in the leg. ”

According to the KMar, marechaussees arrived after a report that someone with a large knife had been seen at the airport. A second suspect has also been arrested, his role is still unclear. The man had been seen on camera images before the attack together with the other suspect.

A possible motive is not yet clear, says the major. “It is still too early to comment on that. The investigation is now in full swing. ”
