Forward of the Latvian U17 football team Dario Šits has joined the system of the Italian club “Parma”, reports the agency “Sport Sport” representing athletes.

Before that, 16-year-old Shits was under the auspices of the Latvian club “Metta”.

As Ģirts Mihelsons, co-founder and general secretary of the Metta club, explained to LETA, Shit had an amateur contract and moved to the Parma youth academy, where he will represent the U18 team.

“I wish him only good luck and endurance. Maybe he will be the first Latvian player to survive in one of the youth academies and become a professional in the same club. The path is not easy, but he had a desire to follow it from an early age, ”explained Mihelsons. “It must be said that in some way it is good that the Latvian club systems are able to prepare footballers for players of the A-level team youth academies.”

Born in 2004, the football player joined the Metta Academy at the age of nine, coming from JFC Skonto. The young footballer spent more than seven years at the Metta Academy.

The Parma adult team starts in the Italian Premier League, as does the U18 team. Meanwhile, the Parma U19 team participates in the Primavera 2a championship.

As part of “Metta”, Shits has won gold in the U13 championship, as well as silver awards in the U15 age group. This season the young footballer represented the U16 and U18 teams of the academy, as well as the “Metta” / “University of Latvia” unit.

In the ranks of “Metta” U-16 this season, Šitis will have seven goals in the same game, in the U18 team – two goals in three games, and in the ranks of “Metta” / “University of Latvia” in eight games one goal.

“The first feelings in Italy are very positive, I live in an academy with five natural grass fields, one artificial turf field, two gyms and an outdoor pool. Currently I train once a week with U19, but eight times – with U18 team. Yesterday there was a friendly game against “Modena”, in which I also scored my first goal as “Parma”, “” Metta “quotes Shita as saying.

Since last year, the 16-year-old footballer has also represented the Latvian national team – the Latvian U16 national team has scored four goals in four games, but the Latvian U17 national team has scored one goal in two games, helping to win the Baltic Cup.

He went to both teams in the main line-up, as well as was the captain of the Latvian national team in the Baltic Cup tournament.
